ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - Cal State East Bay opened their 2025 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) campaign with a convincing 7-3 victory over Sonoma State on Friday afternoon at Seawolf Diamond. The Pioneers rode a complete game performance from pitcher Gabe Tanner and timely hitting to secure the win against the Seawolves.

Cal State East Bay's baseball team has much to celebrate as outfielder Luke Brown has shown exemplary resilience and success, making him a standout student-athlete within one of the university's storied sports programs. Brown, a business administration major with a focus on finance, has leveraged his personal background and dedication to overcome significant challenges and achieve impressive milestones in his college baseball career.

Cal State East Bay Athletics saw some outstanding accomplishments among teams and student-athletes throughout the fall sports seasons of 2024. After all, all three fall team sports reached postseason action, there were some great results on the golf course by both Pioneer golf teams, several medals were achieved in swimming and records were set in cross country. However, most notably, there are three stories of the 2024 fall season that captivated the Pioneer community that are the focus of this week's Pioneer Spotlight.

Norman "Stormin' Norm" Alston, a Cal State East Bay Pioneer Hall of Famer, has come full circle in his athletic career. From a decorated student-athlete to the head coach of the university's Cross Country and Track & Field programs, Alston's journey embodies the spirit of dedication and excellence.

With great sadness, the Pioneer Community remembers legendary soccer coach Colin Lindores, Pioneers Hall of Fame Class of 2010, who passed away earlier this month. He was 84.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - This week, United Soccer Coaches announced its NCAA Division II regional award winners for men's soccer. From Cal State East Bay, Eugenio Perez-Vera Merino was named to the United Soccer Coaches Men's NCAA Division II All-West Region Second Team.

DOWNEY, Calif. - The Cal State East Bay women's golf team kicked off itd 2025 spring season with a solid performance at the LA Spring Kickoff, hosted by Cal State LA at Rio Hondo Golf Club. The Pioneers secured a fifth-place finish among a competitive field of 16 teams in the two-round, 36-hole tournament held on Monday and Tuesday. The par-71, 5,919-yard course presented a challenging test for the golfers, with Cal State East Bay posting a team total of +39 over the two days of competition.Notable Pioneer Performances include:

HAYWARD, Calif. - The No. 25 Cal State East Bay Pioneers continued their perfect start to the 2025 season, sweeping a CCAA conference-opening doubleheader against Sonoma State on Friday at Pioneer Softball Field. The Pioneers won the first game 5-4 and dominated the second game 8-3.
