MEET RECAP: Men's Cross Country at SF State Invitational

SAN FRANCISCO — The Cal State East Bay's men's cross country team finished fourth out of 12 scoring teams at the SF State Invitational held Friday afternoon in Golden Gate Park. In perspective, the Pioneers finished fourth among the eight NCAA Division II teams entered in the meet.

  • Cole McKain led the Pioneers with a third-place finish, crossing the 8k course in 25 minutes, 9.1 seconds. It marked his third top-five finish in four meets this season.
  • Matthew Morgon placed 13th among 118 runners with a time of 25:33.7, contributing to Cal State East Bay's strong showing.
  • Several Cal State East Bay runners set personal 8k records, including Yosef Amaha (26:27.6, 33rd place) and Nicholas Bawardi (28:19.6, 69th place).

Stanislaus State claimed the team victory, placing five runners in the top 10. Tanner Gerhart of Stanislaus State won the individual title in 25:05.1.

The Pioneers will next compete in the Bronco Invitational on Saturday, October 19, at Baylands Regional Park in Sunnyvale, California to wrap up the 2024 regular season. The men's 8k open race is scheduled to start at 10:15 a.m.
