McKain Wins Men's 4-mile Run to Open 2024 Season for Pioneers

FRESNO, Calif. - Cal State East Bay's men's cross country team kicked off its 2024 season with a stellar performance at the Seawolf Invitational, held Saturday morning at Woodward Park. Senior Cole McKain led the charge, finishing first place overall in the men's 4-mile run with an impressive time of 20 minutes, 51.52 seconds.

The Pioneers showcased their depth and talent, finishing third among nine teams eligible for team scoring. McKain's victory set the tone for a strong team performance on the course that will host the CCAA Cross Country Championships in October.

Cal State East Bay's top five finishers demonstrated the team's competitive spirit in a field that included 85 runners in total.

The Pioneers' third-place finish is particularly noteworthy given the strong competition, including Stanislaus State, who secured the team victory with five scoring finishers in the top-10.

The Pioneers will look to build on their strong start at their next meet, the Stump Invitational, hosted by UC Davis. The event will take place on Saturday, September 14, at the Putah Creek Reserve in Davis, California, where the team will tackle an 8k course starting at 9:15 a.m.
