TOURNAMENT RECAP: Women's Golf at Southwest Airlines HPU Shark Shootout
WAIKOLOA VILLAGE, Hawaii - The Cal State East Bay women's golf team secured a strong fifth-place finish out of 15 teams at the Southwest Airlines HPU Sharks Shootout, held at Waikoloa Beach Resort Golf on Friday and Saturday. This tournament marked the final event of the Pioneers' Fall 2024 season.
- Torrie Bowman led the Pioneers with an exceptional performance, finishing third on the individual leaderboard with a final score of -3 (141). Bowman's consistent play was evident in her round scores of 71 and 70. Bowman recorded six birdies over the 36 holes played, showcasing her skill and contributing significantly to the team's success. This performance marks Bowman's best showing early in her Pioneer career.
- Jasmin Krishna also had a solid outing for East Bay, tying for 17th place on the leaderboard with a score of +5 (149).
Cal State San Marcos emerged as the tournament champions, demonstrating strong play throughout the event. Madison Murr from CSUSM claimed the individual title with an impressive score of -6 (138).
With the fall season in the books, Cal State East Bay will return to action in the new year for its next tournament: The Pioneers will compete in the LA Spring Kickoff (hosted by Cal State LA) on February 3-4, 2025 in Downey, California at Rio Hondo Golf Club.

The day did not start promising for Cal State East Bay women's golf, who combined for a +13 in the second round, but the Pioneers were up to the challenge of the third round later in the day. And at -5 as a team in the final round, the Pioneers climbed the team leaderboard to finish in a fourth place tie and advance to the NCAA Division II Championships for a third straight year.
