Pioneer Spotlight: Madison Gomez
As a senior on the Cal State East Bay women's cross country and track & field teams, Madison Gomez has spent the past four years pushing her limits — both on the course and in the classroom. Her journey as a Pioneer is one rooted in growth, connection, and the drive to make the most of every opportunity.
Gomez said she knew East Bay was the right fit from the moment she met the coaching staff and her future teammates.
"Meeting the coaches and team gave me a good feeling that it was a good program to be a part of, one that would help me improve a lot as an athlete," she shared.
That early impression proved true. Over her time at East Bay, Gomez has developed into a steady contributor and leader for the Pioneers, embodying the team's competitive and supportive spirit. For her, the people she trains with every day have been the biggest source of motivation.
"I'm inspired by my teammates who are also able to face similar challenges as me but are always positive and encouraging," Gomez said. "Seeing how hard they work reminds me to stay committed and keep giving my best effort."
Off the course, Gomez is pursuing a degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing, blending her creative interests with practical career skills. She envisions a future that allows her to combine her professional ambitions with her personal passions.
"In the future, I want to be working in marketing, particularly within fashion, beauty, or entertainment," she said. "Those are things I've always been interested in, and I'd love to apply marketing to that world."
As she finishes her senior season, Gomez continues to represent what it means to be a Pioneer; hard-working, team-oriented, and ready to take on any challenge with purpose and positivity.
