Andrist and Sarmiento Receive WWPA Weekly Awards

VISTA, Calif. – The WWPA announced its weekly awards for women's water polo on Wednesday. Two players from Cal State East Bay won the awards for the week of March 25-31. Alex Andrist was named WWPA Offensive Player of the Week, while Luna Sarmiento was named WWPA Defensive Player of the Week.

In a conference match last Friday at Pioneer Pool, Andrist found the net just 20 seconds in against Fresno Pacific. The opening goal was the first of six she netted in an 18-12 victory. She also had one assist on Friday. The following day, in the 2024 home finale, Andrist had one assist and drew one exclusion.

As the main center defender for the Pioneers throughout the pair of matches last week, Sarmiento had only one exclusion. Her defensive presence was demonstrated with six total steals.

Sarmiento received a weekly WWPA award for the third time in her career and the first time in 2024.

The Pioneers return to action on Thursday with a pair of matches on the road, including a morning contest against La Verne and an afternoon match against Whittier.
