MEET RECAP: Men's Cross Country Opens Season at Kim Duyst Twilight Invitational
CERES, Calif. - At River Oaks Golf Course, the 2025 Kim Duyst Cross Country Twilight Invitational took place under the lights. Among 17 teams, Cal State East Bay men's cross country finished 12th in team scoring and third among six NCAA Division II teams entered in an 8k run.
- Leading the Pioneers was Matthew Morgon, placing 53rd overall in 25 minutes, 14.9 seconds.
- In his Pioneer debut, Phillip Logan had the second fastest Pioneer finish in 26:02.8.
- Also debuting on the course for East Bay were Chris Valderrama (26:09.9), Mark Velazquez-Patino (26:15.8), Joaquin McGee (26:48.6), John Funderburg (first event for cross country, 27:34.4) and Brandon Simpson (27:45.9).
UC Davis won the team scoring in the meet with Chico State as the top Division II scoring team.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, September 27 in the Mike Johnson Classic in Monmouth, Oregon at Ash Creek Preserve. Start time for the men's 8k is set for 11:45 a.m.
