Pioneers Power Past SF State for First CCAA Win of 2025
HAYWARD, Calif. - Cal State East Bay volleyball earned a hard-fought victory Saturday evening at Pioneer Gymnasium, defeating (RV) San Francisco State in four sets (25-21, 25-12, 18-25, 25-20) to secure its first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) win of the season. The Pioneers were led by a trio of double-double performances and a balanced attack that kept the Gators on their heels throughout the match.

In the opening set, East Bay built a commanding 23-14 lead behind a kill from Barakat Adekola. San Francisco State responded with a late surge, scoring seven of the next eight points, but Adekola's fifth kill of the set sealed the 25-21 win.
The second set saw East Bay dominate down the stretch. After holding a 15-11 lead, a kill from Natali Herrera sparked a 10-1 run to close the set. Gianna Navarro capped the frame with a kill, giving the Pioneers a 2-0 match lead with a 25-12 win.
San Francisco State answered in the third, maintaining a slim advantage throughout. The Gators closed the set with six of the final eight points, including a service ace from Taylor Vales to win 25-18 and extend the match.
In the deciding fourth set, East Bay held a narrow lead before pulling away late. With a 23-20 advantage, Malayah Adams delivered a clutch kill to set up match point. Adekola then finished the match with her 14th kill of the night, securing the 25-20 win and the match victory.
