East Bay Volleyball Falls in Four Sets to UH Hilo in Route 92 Classic Opener
HAYWARD, Calif. - Cal State East Bay's women's volleyball team opened the 2024 Route 92 Classic on Thursday with a hard-fought loss to the University of Hawai'i at Hilo. The Vulcans emerged victorious in four sets (25-22, 25-23, 15-25, 25-12) at Pioneer Gymnasium to open the prestigious Route 92 Classic.

MATCH SUMMARY |
The opening two sets were closely contested affairs, with neither team able to establish a significant lead. The Vulcans clinched the first set 25-22 after a tight back-and-forth battle. The second set followed a similar pattern, with UH Hilo securing a 25-23 win to take a 2-0 lead.
Facing elimination, the Pioneers rallied in the third set. A crucial 7-1 run midway through the set, capped off by a kill from Lexi Pagani, helped East Bay pull away. The Pioneers closed out the set 25-15, extending the match to a fourth set.
However, UH Hilo regained control in the fourth set, jumping out to a commanding 15-3 lead. The Vulcans maintained their momentum to close out the match with a 25-12 set win.
