SAN FRANCISCO — On a cool Friday afternoon at SFSU Softball Field, No. 13 Cal State East Bay split a tightly contested CCAA doubleheader with No. 21 San Francisco State. The Pioneers opened strong with a 5-1 win behind a dominant pitching performance and a four-run fifth inning, but the Gators answered with a shutout in game two, edging East Bay 1-0 thanks to a solo home run in the first.

Game One: Cal State East Bay 5, SF State 1
San Francisco State struck first in the bottom of the second, capitalizing on a pair of singles and a wild pitch that allowed Marissa Jordan to cross home plate. But East Bay answered in the fourth. Ashlee Toy led off with a double and came around to score on a sacrifice fly RBI from Cynthia Carrillo.
The fifth inning proved decisive. After a leadoff single from Marissa Farias, the Pioneers loaded the bases with two outs. A fielding error allowed the Ysabella Cortez to score the go-ahead run, and a bases-loaded walk to Carrillo brought in another run. Moments later, a wild pitch plated Toy before Jenna Porto capped the inning with an infield RBI single for a 5-1 lead.
Marissa Quintero tossed a complete-game four-hitter to lead Cal State East Bay in the opener, striking out two and navigating early threats to pick up her 13th win of the season. In the effort, Quintero retired nine of the last 11 batters to secure the win.
Game Two: SF State 1, Cal State East Bay 0In a swift, 1-hour and 31-minute contest, East Bay found itself on the wrong end of a pitchers' duel.
Daniella Guerrera homered to left field with two outs in the first inning for the game's only run. The Pioneers threatened in the fifth when Porto singled and advanced to third on a double from Farias, but a pair of flyouts stranded both runners.
