HAYWARD, Calif. — In a competitive CCAA doubleheader on Saturday at Pioneer Softball Field, No. 14 Cal State East Bay split a pair of games with visiting Cal State Monterey Bay. After dropping the opener 10-4, the Pioneers bounced back in dominant fashion behind a complete-game shutout from Marissa Quintero to take the second game 7-0. With the win in game two, East Bay reached the 30-win milestone for the first time since 2012.

Game One: Cal State Monterey Bay 10, Cal State East Bay 4
A big offensive day for Cal State Monterey Bay spoiled East Bay's start to the doubleheader, as the Otters capitalized on early scoring chances and a three-run seventh inning to seal the win.
The teams exchanged two-run frames in the first. Monterey Bay jumped ahead with a two-run double from Nevaeh Martinez after back-to-back singles. East Bay responded when Ashlee Toy and Annelise Garcia reached base to start the bottom half. Cynthia Carrillo drove in a run with a single, and Alexa Zumstein added an RBI groundout to tie the game 2-2.
The Otters broke it open in the second inning. A combination of infield hits, defensive miscues, and an RBI single by Ellie Escalante pushed across three runs, all unearned. They added single tallies in the third and fourth, highlighted by a solo homer from Ally Alcayaga and an RBI double by Oli Perez to extend the lead to 7-2.
East Bay showed signs of life in the sixth when Jennavee Campos delivered a pinch-hit RBI double and Toy followed with an RBI single to cut it to 7-4. But Monterey Bay responded with three more in the seventh, including a two-run double from Gracie Strycula, to cap the scoring.
Game Two: Cal State East Bay 7, Cal State Monterey Bay 0Marissa Quintero continued her sensational season in the circle, tossing her fourth complete-game shutout and second of the series to lift the Pioneers to a decisive bounce-back win in Game Two.
The scoring began in the second inning. Jenna Porto singled to lead off, advanced on a sacrifice bunt, and was moved to third on a single by Jennavee Campos. Jeslyn Cuellar brought her in with a sacrifice fly to right field.
East Bay added two more in the third. Gabriela Rivera and Toy reached safely to open the frame, and Carrillo's infield single drove in Toy. After a pitching change, Porto singled home Garcia to make it 3-0.
The Pioneers exploded for four more in the fourth inning. Cuellar led off with a double and scored on a fielding error. Toy later drove in Amelia Morales with an RBI single up the middle. After another walk, Porto collected her third RBI of the day, and Ysabella Cortez capped the inning with a sacrifice fly.
