TOURNAMENT RECAP: Men's Golf at RJGA Palm Valley Classic

GOODYEAR, Ariz. — Cal State East Bay men's golf turned in a top-five finish this week at the RJGA Palm Valley Classic, placing fifth out of 19 teams in the 54-hole tournament held Monday and Tuesday at Palm Valley Golf Club. The Pioneers posted rounds of 284, 273 and 292 for a team total of 849 on the par-72, 7,015-yard course.

  • Sophomore Adam Brangefalt led the way for East Bay, finishing tied for 10th on the individual leaderboard with a 6-under-par 210 (73-67-71). Brangefalt rolled in 13 birdies over three rounds to pace the team in scoring.
  • Oscar Blomqvist carded a 4-under-par 212 (71-67-74) to finish tied for 16th. He led the Pioneers with 14 birdies.
  • Ananjan Kaushik, competing as an individual, also recorded 14 birdies while posting a 3-over-par 219.
  • Cooper Groshart placed tied for 25th with a 3-under-par 213 (70-68-75). He added one eagle to his card.
  • Peyton Hendricks tallied one eagle and shot a 2-over-par 218.

"We were disappointed with our finish this week," said Cal State East Bay head golf coach Alan Sue. "Today's final round felt like we were trying not to lose. I think this is going to be a learning experience that will help us as we prepare for our postseason run. It was a solid tournament for Adam. Also, this was a big event for Oscar who was starting for the first time in his college career. We have a quick turnaround as we head to Stanislaus on Sunday."

Midwestern State captured the team title with an impressive 54-hole total of 832. Colorado Mesa's Cole Beyer claimed medalist honors at 15-under-par 201 (2-under-par 70, 7-under-par 65, 6-under-par 66).

The Pioneers return to action April 14-15 at the 50th Annual Hanny Stanislaus Invitational. The first two rounds will take place at Merced Golf & Country Club on Monday, followed by the final round Tuesday at Turlock Golf & Country Club.
