Cal State East Bay Men's Golf Wins 2024-25 CCAA Championship
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - History was made on Wednesday at Sandpiper Golf Club, where the Cal State East Bay men's golf team had a collective -1 in the final round to win the 2024-25 CCAA Men's Golf Championships presented by Under Armour. It was the second CCAA Men's Golf Championship in program history.
Not only did the Pioneers win the conference championship as a team, Cooper Groshart won the CCAA Individual Championship following a stellar 70 in round three.
- Groshart's day started with a birdie and had three more with even par on 12 more, including the decisive 18th hole in which his even par clinched the individual win. Overall, Groshart finished 1-under-par 215 (72-73-70) throughout the week winning by one stroke.
- And just trailing Groshart on the leaderboard for a second place tie was Oscar Blomqvist at an even par finish 216.
- Groshart and Blomqvist each had a team-high 12 birdies among the 54 holes played.
- Also aiding the Pioneers' low team score were Easton Hether, who placed 12th overall at 7-over-par, and Peyton Hendricks, who's third round even par contributed to the team's success.
- Groshart and Blomqvist were on the CCAA All-Tournament Team, as it was the first time since 2019 that a Pioneer made the All-Tournament Team (Joey Herrera).
Cal State East Bay head golf coach Alan Sue spoke following the tournament. "Our top finishers here both did not start in the fall season, for the group that earned a 9 rank in the nation. I cannot say enough about Oscar and Cooper. I'm so proud of these guys and their hard work. They are our most mentally strong golfers so I am not surprised at all that they overcame this tough test of golf. We will enjoy this and turn our focus to the Regional Championship at Victoria Club in two weeks."
Cal State East Bay won the CCAA Championship for the second time since joining the conference. In 2016, the Pioneers won the CCAA Men's Golf Championship in Napa. Adam Stone, a member of the Pioneers on the 2016 championship team, also won the individual title in 2016. Groshart and Stone are the only two individual golfers from CSUEB who are CCAA Championship Medalists.
With the CCAA Championship, the next step in the postseason for the Pioneers is the NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional on May 5-7 at Victoria Club in Riverside, California.
