FINAL RECAP: Pioneer Women's Swimming at PCSC Championships

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. — Cal State East Bay's women's swimming team showcased their prowess at the 2024-25 PPCSC Championships, securing a close second-place finish just 2.5 points behind Azusa Pacific on Saturday at the East LA College Swim Stadium. Despite narrowly missing the top spot in team scoring, the Pioneers dominated the podium, clinching the most gold medals (nine) among the 13 competing teams.

  • Brooklyn Dressel led the charge for East Bay, setting two program records in the 100-yard freestyle. Dressel initially broke the record with a time of 49.82 seconds to win the individual event, only to surpass her own mark later in the evening with a 49.77-second leadoff in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
  • Hannah Sharp added to the Pioneers' success, reaching an NCAA 'B' Standard and claiming victory in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:01.01. Her teammate, Taylor Kolsch, secured the bronze in the same event, touching the wall at 2:03.92.
  • In the 200-yard breaststroke, Kylie Beaudet earned a silver medal with a time of 2:19.36, further contributing to East Bay's impressive medal haul.
  • The Pioneers capped off the meet by shattering a school record in the 400-yard freestyle relay that stood for more than 10 years. The team of Dressel, Alexia Fajardo, Delaney Carlson, and Tehani Kong clocked in at 3:23.10, securing gold and etching their names in the program's history books.
  • Dressel's performance was particularly noteworthy throughout the week, as she amassed a total of five gold medals across individual and relay events.
  • For seniors Dressel and Carlson, this marked their fourth and final PCSC Championship meet. Dressel concludes her conference championship career with an impressive 13 gold medals, while Carlson boasts nine.

The Pioneers now set their sights on the 2025 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships, scheduled for March 11-15 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Several East Bay swimmers have met the minimum qualifying standards, with the official announcement of qualifiers expected in late February.
