Pioneers Celebrate Senior Day With Two Wins in Double Dual Meet
HAYWARD, Calif. — The No. 14 Cal State East Bay women's swimming team made a splash at Pioneer Pool on Saturday, dominating their dual meet with impressive victories over Fresno Pacific and No. 13 Simon Fraser. The Pioneers outscored Fresno Pacific, 221-39 and Simon Fraser, 163-97. The meet, which followed a heartfelt Senior Day ceremony, saw multiple swimmers meeting NCAA Division II 'B' Standards and a school record falling.
Before the competition, the team honored its seniors: Bailey Barlow, Delaney Carlson, Sage Crews, Brooklyn Dressel, Allysa Dudley, Justine Garcia, Emilie Giannini, Emma Knott, and Nella Pashak.
Notable performances from the Pioneers included:
- The 200-yard medley relay team of Lily Caraway, Kylie Beaudet, Tehani Kong and Brooklyn Dressel set the tone with a winning time of 1:44.15.
- Kong broke her own school record in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall at 54.19 seconds, securing an NCAA Divison 'B' Standard.
- Beaudet dominated her events, winning the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.44), 200-yard breaststroke (2:19.30, 'B' Standard), and 200-yard individual medley (2:05.01, 'B' Standard).
- Alexia Fajardo claimed victory in the 200-yard butterfly with a 'B' Standard time of 2:02.24.
- Hannah Sharp took first in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking in at 2:02.46 for another 'B' Standard.
- Brooklyn Dressel achieved 'B' Standards in both the 50-yard freestyle (23.74) and 100-yard freestyle (50.87), finishing second in both events.
- The meet concluded with a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as Dressel, Carlson, Kali Mull, and Kong combined for a time of 3:25.83.
- The Pioneers' depth was evident throughout the meet, with Lily Caraway (100-yard backstroke, 57.20) and Tehani Kong (50-yard freestyle, 23.36, 'B' Standard) also securing individual wins.
Cal State East Bay will look to carry this momentum into their next challenge, the PCSC Swimming and Diving Championships. The event is scheduled for February 12-15 at the ELAC Swim Stadium in Monterey Park, California.
