HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay women's swimming team put up a strong fight in a closely contested dual meet against Simon Fraser University on Saturday at Pioneer Pool. Despite falling short in the final score, 87-80, the Pioneers showcased impressive performances across multiple events.
- The meet opened with a win for Cal State East Bay as the 200-yard medley relay team of Lily Caraway, Delaney Carlson, Tehani Kong, and Brooklyn Dressel clinched victory with a time of 1:45.25.
- Kong had a dominant win in the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.04), achieving an NCAA Division II 'B' Standard time.
- Kylie Beaudet triumphed in the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.96), also meeting the NCAA Division II 'B' Standard.
- Hannah Sharp placed second in the 100-yard backstroke (57.21).
- A runner-up performance in the 500-yard freestyle (5:09.82) was from Kali Mull.
- Dressel's showing in the 100-yard freestyle (51.87) was good for third place.
- The Pioneers demonstrated depth throughout the meet, with strong showings in multiple events. Alexia Fajardo (2:08.16) and Reese Veron (2:11.21) secured second and third places respectively in the 200-yard butterfly behind Kong. In the 200-yard freestyle, Mull (1:55.28) and Justine Garcia (1:55.34) finished second and third respectively. Beaudet (1:06.02) and Ally Dudley (1:07.28) took second and third places respectively in the 100-yard breaststroke.
- East Bay closed out the meet with a second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as the team of Kong, Dressel, Mull and Carlson touched the wall in 3:27.79.
Up next, Cal State East Bay will compete in the La Verne Winter Invitational from November 22-24 at the ELAC Swim Stadium in Monterey Park, California to wrap up the fall segment of the 2024-25 schedule. The multi-day meet will provide the Pioneers with an opportunity to build on their strong performances as they continue their season.
