Pioneer Preview: January 29-February 4
Winter sports for Cal State East Bay officially overlap with spring sports starting this week. Both basketball teams play a pair of road games, softball opens the 2025 season in the Concordia Kickoff Classic, baseball hosts MSUB to open its 2025 campaign and women's golf hits the course to start the spring season in the LA Spring Kickoff.

The Pioneers will look to snap a four-game losing skid as they play a pair of CCAA road games, which are rematches from games earlier in January. They defeated Stanislaus State, 64-37 on January 11 and on January 9, won 70-53 over CSUMB.

The Pioneers had a historic 2024 season reaching the NCAA Division II West Regional for the first time as a CCAA member. They will look for more in 2025 with several starters returning. Named to the CCAA Softball Preseason Watchlist were Cynthia Carrillo, Jeslyn Cuellar, Annelise Garcia, Marissa Quintero and Ashlee Toy.

The Pioneers start the 2025 season with a four-game home series against MSU Billings and will look to improve off a 2024 season in which they went 14-25 overall. Gabe Tanner was named to the CCAA Preseason Watchlist and the NCBWA NCAA DII Preseason West Region Team.

The Pioneers are coming off a fall season in which the team placed second in the opener, and fifth in the final two fall tournaments last October. In order to reach the NCAA Division II National Championships for a third straight season, the Pioneers have an opportunity to begin their run on Monday.
The lineup for the tournament representing the Pioneers includes Torrie Bowman, Makena Ebster, Carlota Eroles, Jasmin Krishna, Denise Paulsson and Sophia Tejeda (individual).
