This Week in Pioneer Athletics (Oct.. 16-22)
Alumni Weekend is approaching this week with activities surrounding volleyball and men's and women's soccer on Thursday in Hayward as well as the Pioneers Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Saturday.
Both soccer programs host a match on Thursday and are on the road at Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday. Volleyball playes a home-and-home series with CSUMB, hosting on Thursday and playing in Seaside on Saturday. Women's swimming competes in two meets as part of the Slug Shootout in Santa Cruz, both Cross Country teams run on Saturday morning in the Bronco Invitational to wrap up the regular season and both golf teams travel to Hawaii.

Last Friday, the Pioneers lost on a last-second goal by Cal Poly Pomona, but responded nicely with a 2-0 victory on Sunday over Cal State San Bernardino. They host SF State on Thursday, but travel on the road to Seaside on Sunday for a matchup against Cal State Monterey Bay.

The Pioneers will look to snap a three-match losing streak on Thursday when they host San Francisco State. On Friday, East Bay made a push to come back against No. 2 Cal Poly Pomona, but came up short, falling 3-2. On Sunday, the Pioneers lost on a goal in the final minute to Cal State San Bernardino.

The Pioneers were swept last week in a pair of CCAA matches in Southern California and will look to end a three-match losing streak on Thursday when they host Cal State Monterey Bay. They face the Otters again on Saturday but on the road in Seaside.

Saturday's Bronco Invitational will be the final meet of the 2024 regular season for the Pioneers before the CCAA Champonships the following week. Last Friday, Madison Gomez placed 14th in the women's 6k at the SF State Invitational in a field of 103 entered runners.

Monday and Tuesday's Dennis Rose Intercollegiate will be the first of two tournaments next week in Hawaii for the Pioneers who will look to finish strong in those tournaments to wrap up 2024. They return to action after placing ninth in a very competitive field during the National Preview on October 7-8.

- Pioneer Spotlight: Alan SueOf all head coaches currently at Cal State East Bay, Alan Sue has held such a role the longest among the group as he is in the 20th year in that role, and 25th year coaching overall with the Pioneers. Overseeing men's and women's golf, Sue has seen so much success with both teams, including 17 tournament championships as an NCAA Division II member, back-to-back appearances by the women's golf program in the NCAA Division II Championships and conference championships in the CalPac and CCAA just to name a few.

This tournament marked the final event of the Pioneers' Fall 2024 season.

The two-day event, played over 36 holes on the par 72, 6,112-yard course, saw the Pioneers deliver a consistent performance across their lineup.
