MEET RECAP: Women's Cross Country at Cougar Challenge

SAN MARCOS, Calif. - Cal State East Bay women's cross country finished in fifth place among 16 scoring teams in the women's 6k at the Cougar Challenge on Saturday morning from the campus of Cal State San Marcos at Mangrum Track & Field.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
  • Leading the charge for the Pioneers was Madison Gomez, who finished with a personal best 6k time of 22 minutes, 7.3 seconds placing her 13th overall in a field of 157 runners.
  • Yamilet Deniz crossed the finish line as East Bay's second-fastest runner, clocking in at 22:46.3. 
  • -Other Pioneers reaching a personal best 6k time, who have previously competed for the 6k distance at East Bay included Jenna Rodriguez (22:50.2), Karla Galvan (23:50.9) and Angelique Martinez (24:33.3)

While Grace Southern from Academy of Art claimed the individual title with a blistering time of 21:07.2, and Point Loma secured the team victory with three top-10 finishes.

UP NEXT FOR CAL STATE EAST BAY

The Pioneers will now set their sights on the SF State Invitational. Mark your calendars for Friday, October 11 when the Pioneers will take to the scenic course at Golden Gate Park's Speedway Meadow in San Francisco. The women's 6k race is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
