TOURAMENT RECAP: Men's Golf at Dennis Rose Intercollegiate

WAIMEA, Hawaii — Cal State East Bay's men's golf team finished fourth out of 19 teams at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate held Monday and Tuesday at the Mauna Lani North Course. The two-round tournament, played on the par-72, 6,913-yard course, saw the Pioneers compete over 36 holes against a strong field.

Notable performances for Cal State East Bay included:

  • Peyton Hendricks led the Pioneers, tying for 11th at 3-under 141.
  • Won Jun Lee finished tied for 17th at 1-under 143.
  • Adam Brangefalt and Ananjan Kaushik each carded even-par 72s in Tuesday's second round.
  • Brangefalt, Hendricks, and Easton Hether each recorded one eagle during the tournament.
  • Hendricks, Kaushik, and Lee each tallied eight birdies over the two rounds.

Cal State East Bay golf coach Chris Oetinger reflected on the team's performance:
"Not a terrible result for the men but we know we can play better. We were in a position after Round One and got off to a strong start in Round Two. Midway through Round Two we got a little sideways off the tee which led to multiple stroke penalties. The guys also struggled with the Bermuda greens which is something we will need to correct as we have a quick turnaround into another course with Bermuda. We will make the necessary adjustments and I expect them to bounce back strong for our final fall tournament."

Colorado Christian claimed the team title, while Sungyeop Cho and Sangha Park, both from CCU, tied for the individual medalist honors at 10-under-par 134.

The Pioneers will look to build on this performance in their final fall tournament, the HPU Sharks Shootout. The event is scheduled for October 25-26 at The Village Course at Waikoloa in Waikoloa Village, Hawaii. Details on the course par, distance, and number of rounds were not available at the time of this recap.
