Pioneer Men's Golf Opens 2024-25 Season With Tournament Win
DUPONT, Wash. - The Cal State East Bay men's golf team kicked off its 2024-25 season with a team scoring victory at the St. Martin's Bishop Invitational, edging out Colorado Mesa in a tiebreaker by way of drop score playoff. The Pioneers emerged victorious among a competitive field of 18 teams at The Home Course. The three-round, 54-hole tournament, which took place Thursday and Friday, saw Cal State East Bay showcase skill, determination, and teamwork as they clinched the win.
- Leading the charge for the Pioneers was Adam Brangefalt, who tied for ninth place on the leaderboard with an impressive score of -2 (214). Brangefalt's performance was highlighted by 10 birdies throughout the tournament, demonstrating his consistency and ability to perform under pressure.
- Close behind were Aaron Lee and Ananjan Kaushik, both tying for 13th place with scores of -1 (215).
- Kaushik, in particular, made waves in Friday's final round, carding a Pioneer tournament-low score of 69 for the Pioneers with six birdies. His stellar performance contributed to an impressive total of 14 birdies over the course of the event.
Head Coach Alan Sue expressed his pride in the team's performance, stating:
"Great effort and focus by the men's team this week. Obviously we are very excited for this result to begin the season. We did takeaway some important lessons this week. For one, every shot matters. And two, never count yourself out on having an influence on the team's success."
While Cal State East Bay claimed the team victory, individual honors went to Colorado Mesa's Cole Beyer, who finished as the tournament medalist with a remarkable score of -12 (204).
Cal State East Bay will look forward to the team's next challenge at the Wildcat Classic, hosted by Chico State, on October 7-8 in Corning, California at The Links at Rolling Hills.
