Pioneer Men's Basketball Drops Exhibition Game at San Jose State, 75-61
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Cal State East Bay men's basketball team had an opportunity to get ready for the 2024-25 campaign with an exhibition game against San Jose State on Tuesday evening at the Provident Credit Union Event Center. Despite a valiant effort, the Pioneers fell to the Spartans 75-61.
The Pioneers showed flashes of potential throughout the contest, particularly on the offensive end. Cal State East Bay managed to put up 61 points against their Division I opponent, with several players making significant contributions.
- Beril Kabamba led the team with 11 points and five rebounds.
- Teiano Hardee contributed 10 points, three rebounds, and two assists.
- DJ Sanders added nine points, going 7-for-9 from the free-throw line.
- Jason Ernest-Mpi and Chase Page each grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
- The Pioneers demonstrated resilience on the boards, collecting 34 total rebounds against the taller Spartans. They also showed promise from beyond the arc, connecting on seven 3-pointers at a 31.8 percent clip.
- Defensively, Cal State East Bay forced 17 turnovers and recorded 10 steals, showcasing their ability to disrupt their opponent's offense.
The Pioneers will open their 2024-25 regular season on Friday, November 8, hosting (RV) Point Loma at Pioneer Gymnasium in Hayward, California. This game marks the opening night of the Pioneer Conference Challenge, hosted by Cal State East Bay.
