Pioneer Women's Golf Finishes Third at CCAA Championships
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Wednesday marked the final round of the 2024-25 CCAA Women's Golf Championships presented by Under Armour. At Sandpiper Golf Club, Cal State East Bay finished in third place among the six teams competing for a CCAA title.
- The most notable performance in the third round among the Pioneers was from Sophia Tejeda, who climbed five spots to reach the top-10 in a ninth place tie on the leaderboard with a final score of 17-over-par . She had three birdies on Wednesday and seven for the entire 54 holes played throughout the week.
- Also tied for ninth was Jasmin Krishna, who carded a 78 in the final round with three birdies.
- Three others from Cal State East Bay reached the top-15 including Denise Paulsson and Carlota Eroles tied for 11th and Torrie Bowman tied for 13th. Eroles led East Bay in total birdies with eight.
Cal State East Bay golf coach Chris Oetinger spoke following the tournament. "We had many ups and downs at the conference championship. It was great to see the whole squad come out hot during round one. However, we lost momentum in the second round and never seem to gain traction. What was confirmed for us this event is that in order for us to compete at our best level, we need to maintain our emotions and composure. It is never easy in this game as golf provides endless tests and adversity one must overcome every step of the way. We now await the regional selections. We look forward to improving our mental and emotional games to make a postseason run."
Winning the 2024-25 CCAA Women's Golf Championships presented by Under Armour was Cal State San Marcos for the sixth consecutive time in which a CCAA Women's Golf Championship has taken place. CSUSM took three of the top four spots on the leaderboard, with Madison Murr finishing as the CCAA Individual Champion at 6-over-par 222.
The Pioneers await the selection announcement for the 2025 NCAA Division II West Regional. Though not guaranteed, East Bay (or possibly just individual golfers) has a good chance to receive an at-large bid. If the Pioneers are awarded the postseason berth, the regional championship tournament takes place May 5-7 in Amarillo, Texas at La Paloma Golf Course.
