FINAL RECAP: Women's Golf Reaches Third Straight NCAA Division II Championship
AMARILLO, Texas - After Tuesday's second round was postponed due to inclement weather, the 2025 NCAA Division II Women's Golf West Regional resumed action on Wednesday with the second and third round completed in one day. The day did not start promising for Cal State East Bay women's golf, who combined for a +13 in the second round, but the Pioneers were up to the challenge of the third round later in the day. And at -5 as a team in the final round, the Pioneers climbed the team leaderboard to finish in a fourth place tie and advance to the NCAA Division II Championships for a third straight year.
East Bay will compete as a team for a third straight year at the NCAA Championships and be represented with at least one golfer for a fourth straight year.
- Leading the charge for the Pioneers on the final 18 holes was Sophia Tejeda. The senior carded a 77 in the second round, but her 10-stroke turnaround in the final round elevated her to third overall in the West Regional, finishing at 5-over-par 218. With five golfers finishing at +5, Tejeda's 67 in round three put her in third overall. Tejeda's 11 birdies was tied for the most among all golfers in the field with six of the 11 birdies in the third round.
- Torrie Bowman climbed into the top-20 on the leaderboard to finish the tournament, aiding the team score with an even par 71 in the final round and finishing tied for 16th overall.
- Also with an even par 71 in round three was Carlota Eroles.
- Climbing 21 spots in the final round was Jasmin Krishna, who's 1-under-par third round score was highlighted with four birdies.
After the tournament, Cal State East Bay assistant golf coach Arrianna Custodio spoke about team and individual accomplishments on the course to advance to the championship tournament.
"I'm incredibly proud of this team!," stated Custodio. "This season came with its fair share of challenges, but every one of them shaped and prepared us for this moment. Each player stepped up and contributed to today's success. This was without a doubt our strongest mental performance of the season."
Custodio added, "I want to give a shout out to Jasmin for consistently being a driving force behind our journey to Nationals. Torri showed tremendous growth, delivering her most composed and focused performance yet. And Sophia's resilience was displayed with an incredible comeback after round two."
Winning the NCAA Division II West Regional was Midwestern State, who won a playoff over Dallas Baptist after both teams were tied after 54 holes. The region's individual championship was also decided in a playoff, where Anna Nomrowski from West Texas A&M defeated MSU's Brecklyn Flanagan.
In addition to the Pioneers, teams also advancing to next week's NCAA Championships from the West Region are Dallas Baptist, Midwestern State, West Texas A&M and Cal State San Marcos.
Next week, the Pioneers will compete for a national championship at the 2025 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships from Tuesday, May 13 to Thursday, May 15. The top eight teams through stroke play advance to match medal play, which takes place on May 16-17. The championship tournament will be held at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada. East Bay should be familiar with the course as it played there during the fall season on October 7-8, 2024 in the National Preview.
