PREVIEW: Men's Golf at 2025 NCAA Division II Championships

For the first time since 2017, Cal State East Bay Men's Golf will be competing in the NCAA Division II National Championships. The season was decorated with team and individual accomplishments leading up to this week's championship tournament. 

A total of 20 teams and eight individuals on non-qualifying teams make up the field of golfers in the NCAA Championships. The format is three rounds, one each day from Monday to Wednesday, of 54-hole stroke play. The top eight scoring teams advance to match medal play, which takes place Friday and Saturday, with matchups based on seed finishes.
 
Colorado Christian was the 2024 NCAA Division II Champion and is in the field this year.

ABOUT THE PIONEERS
Most recently, the Pioneers reached the NCAA Championships with a third place finish in the NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional. 

Additional highlights in 2024-25 include

  • The 2025 CCAA Championship Team Title
  • Cooper Groshart winning the CCAA individual title
  • Head golf coach Alan Sue being named CCAA Coach of the Year
  • Four tournament championships in the regular season, including the first three

GOLFERS ENTERED FOR CAL STATE EAST BAY
 

Oscar Blomqvist

Blomquist finished second at the CCAA Men's Golf Championships at even par 216 and was named to the CCAA Championships All-Tournament Team. He had two top-five finishes and four top-15 finishes in the 2024-25 season as he is averaging 72.7 strokes-per-round. 

Adam Brangefalt

Brangefalt had four top-10 finishes in 2024-25. He finished fourth twice, including the Southwest Airlines HPU Sharks Shootout and the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout. His scoring average is 72.7 heading into the NCAA Championships. 

Cooper Groshart

Leading the Pioneers to a CCAA Team Championship in April, Groshart also was the 2025 CCAA Individual Champion in the tournament. He had the second lowest score among the Pioneers at the NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional (-7) for 15th place after 14 birdies and one eagle, contributing to the team's third place finish to clinch a place in the NCAA Men's Golf Championships. Groshart was also named NCAA Division II PING All-West Region Team.

Peyton Hendricks

Hendricks finished 20th at the NCAA Division II Wes/South Central Regional at 5-under par. He finished third at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout and sixth at the Nighthawk Invitational to start the spring season. His average score heading into the championship tournament is 73.9. 

Easton Hether

Hether was perhaps one of the most consistent Pioneer golfers in 2024-25. He had four top-five finishes, including being the medalist to open the 2025 spring season at the Nighthawk Invitational, which led him to be the co-recipient of the CCAA Men's Golfer of the Week. He placed second at the Hot Dirt Desert Shootout on March 21. At the CCAA Championships, his 12th place finish helped the Pioneers win the team title. In the NCAA Division II West/South Cental Regional, Hether's eighth place finish with 15 birdies and an eagle aided the Pioneers to a third place finish to reach the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2017. Additional postseason accolades for Hether include All-CCAA, NCAA Division II PING All-West Region Team and Cal State East Bay Male Student-Athlete of the Year. 

Ananjan Kaushik (Alternate)

Kaushik tied for second at the Otter Invitational this past fall and would be named FloCollege/CCAA Men's Golfer of the Week. Kaushik had four top-10 finishes in 2024-25.
