WXC: Pioneers Race to 8th Place Finish at Mike Johnson XC Classic
MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Cal State East Bay women's cross country team put together a tightly packed effort on Friday at the Mike Johnson XC Classic, finishing eighth overall in the 14-team field with a team score of 195.
Junior Angelique Martinez set the tone for the Pioneers, surging to a 28th-place finish in 21:55.5. She was followed closely by junior Madison Gomez, who crossed the line in 22:16.3 for 35th. Just seconds back, sophomore Hope Brookins clocked 22:44.2 to place 43rd, with junior Jenna Rodriguez at 22:49.5 (46th) and sophomore Yamilet Deniz at 22:53.9 (47th). That five-runner grouping finished within less than a minute of each other.
Freshman Grace Veloza added depth in 23:30.0 (58th), while junior Genevieve Tamondong rounded out the lineup at 25:07.1 (74th). The Pioneers posted a total time of 1:52:39, averaging 22:31 per runner.
East Bay will back in action next Friday when they compete in the Pacific Invite in Lodi at 6:15 pm.
