Pioneer Softball Finishes Doubleheader with Walk-off Win
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 HAYWARD, Calif. - The No. 25 Cal State East Bay softball team split a doubleheader with Sonoma State on Saturday at Pioneer Softball Field, seeing their 11-game win streak come to an end before bouncing back with a thrilling walk-off victory to finish the conference-opening series.

Game One: Sonoma State 3, Cal State East Bay 1
In the opener, the Pioneers' perfect start to the season was halted as Sonoma State claimed a 3-1 victory. The game remained scoreless through four innings before East Bay broke through in the bottom of the fifth. Ysabella Cortez singled, advanced to second on a groundout, and came around to score following an error, giving the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.
However, the Seawolves responded emphatically in the top of the sixth, plating three runs to take a 3-1 advantage. East Bay threatened in the bottom half of the inning, putting two runners on base including the tying run, but a double play extinguished their hopes. The Pioneers were held scoreless in the seventh, ending their 11-game win streak to start the season.
Game Two: No. 25 Cal State East Bay 3, Sonoma State 2
The Pioneers bounced back in the second game, securing a dramatic 3-2 walk-off win. After falling behind 1-0, East Bay evened the score in the bottom of the second when Jeslyn Cuellar delivered an RBI double.
Sonoma State reclaimed the lead in the top of the fourth, but the Pioneers had an answer in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs, Evyn Morriss singled and advanced to third on a double by Annelise Garcia. Morriss then scored the tying run on a wild pitch, knotting the game at 2-2.
The score remained deadlocked until the bottom of the seventh when East Bay mounted their game-winning rally. Cortez and Sarissa Block led off with back-to-back singles and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Gabriela Rivera. Garcia then hit a groundball to shortstop and was thrown out at first, but Cortez raced home from third and beat the throw to the plate, securing a thrilling 3-2 walk-off victory for the Pioneers.
