Caleb Schaeffer Named FloCollege/CCAA Pitcher of the Week

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. - The CCAA weekly baseball awards were announced Monday for action from March 10-16. From Cal State East Bay, Caleb Schaeffer was named FloCollege/CCAA Pitcher of the Week.

In two appearances as a relief pitcher, Schaeffer's performances on the mound helped the Pioneers take three of four games on the road at No. 11 Chico State.

On Thursday, he entered the game in the bottom of the sixth, and had full command for four innings. He allowed no hits and struck out seven on his way to a four-inning save against the Wildcats in the series opener.

To close out the series on Sunday, Schaeffer pitched three scoreless innings and got out of two jams. One of the jams was in the bottom of the 10th inning with the winning run in scoring position with only one out. He escaped the inning after a strikeout and a crucial out at the plate courtesy of the Pioneer defense. Schaeffer became the winning pitcher on Sunday as the Pioneers took the lead in the top of the 11th with him still entered in the game.

The Pioneers return to action with a home series starting Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. when they host a CCAA series opener against (RV) Cal State San Bernardino.
