Pioneers Back on Winning Track With Four-Set Victory at Cal Poly Humboldt

ARCATA, Calif. - Cal State East Bay women's volleyball played ttook on Cal Poly Humboldt on Thursday evening at Lumberjack Arena. Despite dropping the first set, the Pioneers snapped their two match losing skid as they defeated the Lumberjacks, 3-1 (20-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-17).

MATCH SUMMARY

In the first set, the Lumberjacks started the set on a 14-10 spurt capped by an assisted block by Elyse McKinney and Ryleeh Tuaolo. The Lumberjacks won the first set 25-20 and took a 1-0 lead in the match.
 
The Pioneers started the second set on a 14-5 run capped by a Taumafa Tuinauvai ace. The Lumberjacks would come as close as five, at 19-14, on an Awelina Fakalata kill, but Pioneers finished the set on a 6-2 spurt to win the second set, 25-16 evening the match at 1-1.
 
Cal State East Bay won the third set 25-18, scoring seven of the set's final eight points, to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
 
The Pioneers started the set four on a 15-4 run capped by an assisted block by Fane Paua and Lexi Pagani. Although Humboldt climbed back in the set to trim the deficit to as little as even points, Cal State East Bay won the fourth set, 25-17 to take the match 3-1.

NOTABLE STATS
  • Alexandria Gloria and Mia Jordan had 12 kills for the Pioneers.
  • Megan Crecelius had a match-high 25 assists for the Pioneers on Thursday.
  • Taumafa Tuinauvai led the Pioneers with 18 digs. 
  • Jordan also had four total blocks, with three being solo blocks. 
  • In the series between CSUEB and Cal Poly Humboldt, the Pioneers have won the last nine matches between the teams.

The next match for the Pioneers will be this coming Saturday as they take on Sonoma State in Rohnert Park. First serve is set for 3 p.m. from the Wolves' Den. On September 29, the Pioneers defeated the Seawolves in five sets in Hayward.
