DAY THREE RECAP: Kong Sets New Pioneer Record at NCAA Championships; Finishes Eighth Nationally in 100 Yard Butterfly

GENEVA, Ohio – The 2024 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships resumed Thursday from SPIRE Institute Aquatics Center. Two events included swimmers from Cal State East Bay women's swimming – the 400 yard individual medley and 100 yard butterfly. In the 100 yard butterfly, a new Pioneer record was set in the prelims by Tehani Kong, who finished in 54.33 seconds.

  • Kong's record-breaking prelim performance earned her a spot in the 100 yard butterfly championship final. In the evening's final, Kong placed eighth overall in 54.65 seconds. With an eighth place finish nationally, it's expected that she will be named a CSCAA All-American.
  • In the prelims, with a time of 54.33, Kong broke her own Pioneer record that she set earlier in the season, which was 54.73.
  • Kong reached the final in an event for the second straight day as she placed 10th overall on Wednesday in the 50 yard freestyle.
  • Also swimming on Thursday for the Pioneers was Kylie Beaudet, who finished the prelims of the 400 yard individual medley in 4:27.89.

The NCAA Championship meet continues Friday, as the Pioneers have entries in the 200 yard butterfly and 200 yard freestyle relay.
