Cal State East Bay women's golf will be competing in the NCAA Division II National Championships for a third straight year as a team and a fourth straight year with a golfer representing the program.
A total of 18 teams and eight individuals on non-qualifying teams make up the field of golfers in the NCAA Championships. The format is three rounds, one each day from Tuesday to Thursday, of 54-hole stroke play. The top eight scoring teams advance to match medal play, which takes place Friday and Saturday, with matchups based on seed finishes.
UIndy was the 2024 NCAA Division II Champion and is in the field this year.
ABOUT THE PIONEERS
Cal State East Bay reached the NCAA Championships by finishing in a fourth place tie at the NCAA Division II West Regional last week in Amarillo, Texas. The second and third round were forced to be played in one day that included contrasting rounds for the Pioneers. The day started slowly with higher scores in the second round, but turning to the third round, so did the Pioneers' fortunes. A push to the end led by Sophia Tejeda's 67 score in round three put her in third place on the leaderboard at the regionals.
East Bay enters the NCAA Championships ranked No. 29 overall. The Pioneers' first tee time on Tuesday is set for 11:20 a.m. (Denise Paulsson).
The Pioneers are familiar with Boulder Creek, as they competed there in the National Preview on October 7-8, 2024.
GOLFERS ENTERED FOR CAL STATE EAST BAY
Tejeda is ranked No. 123 individually in the nation with a scoring average of 75.4. Her best finish of the season was just last week in regional play and she has five top-10 finishes – all in the Spring Season.
Bowman is ranked No. 135 in the nation, and had a 71 in the final round to finish regionals tied for 16th, helping East Bay reach the NCAA Championships. Bowman was most known for the honor of CCAA Freshman of the Year and also won the final tournament of the regular season in the RJGA Palm Valley Classic.
The NCAA Championships is nothing new for Krishna, who has been on the journey twice before as a Pioneer. Season highlights for Krishna include a ninth place finish at the CCAA Championships, two eighth place finishes in the spring regular season and a third place finish to start the 2024-25 season in September at the RJGA Shootout at Estrella. Krishna's 70 in the third round of the NCAA West Regional was key to the Pioneers' success.
Eroles has been regularly in the lineup throughout the season for the Pioneers, as she is averaging 76.7 per round. Her third round even par performance at the NCAA Regionals helped lift East Bay into the NCAA Championships.
Paulsson's best performance this season was during the CCAA Championships where she finished 11th.
Designated as the Pioneers' substitute, Leeper appeared in the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout this past February.
