Pioneers Open 2025 Schedule With Fifth Place Finish at LA Spring Kickoff

DOWNEY, Calif. - The Cal State East Bay women's golf team kicked off itd 2025 spring season with a solid performance at the LA Spring Kickoff, hosted by Cal State LA at Rio Hondo Golf Club. The Pioneers secured a fifth-place finish among a competitive field of 16 teams in the two-round, 36-hole tournament held on Monday and Tuesday. The par-71, 5,919-yard course presented a challenging test for the golfers, with Cal State East Bay posting a team total of +39 over the two days of competition.Notable Pioneer Performances include:

  • Carlota Eroles and Torrie Bowman led the charge for Cal State East Bay, both tying for the lowest individual score among Pioneer golfers at 8-over-par 150.
  • Bowman displayed her prowess on the greens, sinking a team-high five birdies over the 36 holes played.
  • Sophia Tejeda, competing as an individual, finished strong with a 9-over-par 151, highlighting the depth of talent within the Pioneer squad.

Cal State East Bay head golf coach Alan Sue reflected on the team's performance: "The ladies had a decent showing in our first event of the spring. With this only being our third week together as a team, we have some physical and mental mistakes to clean up as we move forward. This is a close-knit group that has a lot of talent. Our challenge will be to work harder and smarter as we prepare to host the [Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout] in less than three weeks."

Cal State San Marcos emerged as the team champion, while Tilda Kvarnrud of Cal State Monterey Bay claimed individual medalist honors with an impressive even-par 142 performance.

Cal State East Bay will now turn its focus to hosting the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout, scheduled for February 24-25 at Corica Park in Alameda, California. This home event presents an excellent opportunity for the Pioneers to showcase their skills and continue their upward trajectory in the 2025 campaign.
