MEET RECAP: Pioneer Women's Cross Country at Cougar Challenge

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – On Saturday morning, the Cal State East Bay women's cross country team placed sixth among 17 teams in the Cougar Challenge and third among 12 NCAA Division II teams in the meet. The Pioneers competed in the women's 6k run on the campus of Cal State San Marcos.
 
Multiple Pioneers achieved personal bests on Saturday, led Kimberly Lima Pardina and Madison Gomez.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
  • Placing fifth among 190 runners was Lima, who completed the 6k in 20 minutes, 58.9 seconds, which shatters a personal record and was precisely five seconds shy of matching a Pioneer record for a 6k.
  • Improving her personal 6k time by more than 30 seconds was Gomez, completing the course in 22:20.8.
  • Also meeting new 6k personal bests for Cal State East Bay were Jenna Rodriguez (22:52.4), Evelyn Zambrano-Montemayor (23:18.5) and Anya von Euw (23:56.9).
  • Unattached runner Jennifer Sandoval placed first in the 6k in 19:53.
  • No. 13 Chico State won the team scoring title for the meet.

UP NEXT FOR CAL STATE EAST BAY

The final regular season meet for the Pioneers takes place on Friday, October 6 when they run in the SF State Invitational. Start time for the women's 6k is set for 3:30 p.m. from Speedway Meadow in Golden Gate Park.
