Pioneer Spotlight: Michael Greco and Jenna Rodriguez

This week, the Pioneer Spotlight shines on the track and field programs at Cal State East Bay. Michael Greco is a jumper for the men's track team in his second season with the program and Jenna Rodriguez is in her third season with track and cross country.

Michael Greco

Cal State East Bay's Track and Field team recognizes Michael Greco today for his exceptional contributions and outstanding performance, particularly as a jumper on the men's team. Greco, a Kinesiology student, has demonstrated excellence in and out of the field, striking a balance between athletics, academics, and personal interests.

Michael Greco's athletic achievements are a testament to his dedication and talent. Since joining the Pioneers, he has left a significant mark on the team, notably securing fourth place in the triple jump at the 2024 CCAA Championships. Additionally, he achieved multiple victories in sprint events and made a memorable debut as a Pioneer by winning the triple jump with an impressive distance of 13.38 meters in his first meet. These accomplishments highlight his versatile athletic skills and his critical role on the team.

Away from the track, Greco is equally ambitious. Inspired by his family and driven by a desire to make them proud, he is the first in his family to attend college. This motivation has led him to choose a challenging academic path and a career goal of becoming an EMT. His ability to manage his time effectively allows him to juggle training, work, and studies successfully. In his downtime, Michael enjoys exploring with friends, attending car meets, working on his car, and playing video games.

Jenna Rodriguez

At Cal State East Bay, rising star Jenna Rodriguez has left an impressive mark on the Track and Field scene along with her distance running as a member of the Cross Country team. A distinguished student-athlete, Jenna Rodriguez, has not only excelled academically but has also amassed notable achievements in her athletic career, including earning a silver medal in the 800 meters at the 2023 and 2024 CCAA Championships, along with several individual and relay wins.

Hailing from a background enriched with an early interest in biology, Jenna's childhood curiosity about wildlife has shaped her pursuit of a career in veterinary medicine. Balancing her rigorous studies and athletic commitments, Jenna indulges in reading, drawing, painting, crocheting, and gaming, which keep her well-rounded and grounded.

Reflecting on her journey at Cal State East Bay, Jenna shared, "For me, being a Cal State East Bay Pioneer means having the ability to withstand trouble when things get tough. Being a Pioneer has allowed me to face these challenges and learn to come out on top. This is all due to knowing that there will always be fellow Pioneers supporting me. I believe that being a Cal State East Bay Pioneer creates strong and independent students ready to adapt to anything." Her resilience and dedication epitomize the spirit of the Pioneers, preparing her to adapt and thrive in any situation.
