OVERVIEW AND NOTES |
For the first time as a CCAA member, Cal State East Bay softball will play in the NCAA Division II Softball Regionals. The Pioneers are coming off a 2024 CCAA Tournament in which they made a run to the Championship Game, which perhaps bolstered their consideration for the at-large berth awarded.
The 5th-seeded Pioneers will compete in a double elimination regional, which includes Cal State San Marcos, top-seeded Western Washington and No. 8 seed Azusa Pacific. The NCAA postseason journey begins Thursday in Bellingham, Washington with a familiar matchup against the region's No. 4 seed CSUSM.
The team to win the regional advances to next week's super regional against the winner of West Regional 2 (hosted by No. 2 seed Northwest Nazarene).
NCAA Division II West Regional 2 takes place in Nampa, Idaho includes NNU, Concordia University Irvine, Cal State Dominguez Hills and Saint Martin's.

ABOUT THE REGIONAL OPPONENTS |
Cal State San Marcos (35-20) is a very familiar opponent to the Pioneers, as Thursday's matchup will be the eighth between the two teams. CSUSM has a 4-3 advantage this season combining the regular season and the CCAA Tournament. The Pioneers staved off elimination in the first game on Championship Saturday in the CCAA Tournament with a 4-2 win, but lost the winner-take-all rematch later in the day, 6-2 to the Cougars.
Also in the bracket are the host team and No. 1 seed Western Washington (42-7) and the No. 8 seed Azusa Pacific (30-19), who will meet each other on Thursday at noon to open the regional. With the double elimination format, the Pioneers will face either WWU or APU on Friday, as the matchup will depend on all of Thursday's results.
The Pioneers did not face WWU this season, but split two separate games against APU. Western Washington is ranked No. 13 in the latest NFCA Division II Poll.
