SAN MARCOS, Calif. — No. 13 Cal State East Bay softball wrapped up a memorable 2025 regular season in winning fashion on Saturday at CSUSM Softball Field, sweeping No. 25 Cal State San Marcos with 5-4 and 7-1 victories. While the Pioneers already clinched the CCAA Regular Season title before Saturday, East Bay finished the regular season with 38 wins — one of the best seasons in program history.

However, the Pioneers responded in the third when Amelia Morales drew a leadoff walk and later scored on an RBI single to center by Garcia. Alexa Zumstein followed with an RBI single to center to tie the game at 2-2.

East Bay grabbed the lead in the fourth inning as Jeslyn Cuellar worked a walk and moved up on a single by Ysabella Cortez. An throwing error on a ground ball hit by Evyn Morriss allowed Cuellar to cross the plate.

In the fifth, Garcia delivered again, launching a solo home run to left field to push the lead to 4-2.

The Cougars rallied with two runs in the sixth to tie it after a two-run single by Aneesa Arredondo.

But in the top of the seventh, Garcia sparked the winning rally in the seventh with a walk and eventually scored the go-ahead run on an RBI double from Marissa Farias.

CSUSM had the winning run on base in the bottom of the seventh, but a 1-5-3 double play ended the game as East Bay won 5-4. Game One: No. 13 Cal State East Bay 7, No. 25 Cal State San Marcos 1
The Pioneers wasted no time in the second game, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. After Evyn Morriss walked and advanced on a groundout, Garcia smashed a double to right-center to bring Morriss home. Zumstein followed by launching a two-run homer to center field, which was her fifth of the season and second in as many days.

East Bay continued to apply pressure in the fourth. A bases-loaded walk drawn by Morriss stretched the lead to 4-0.

In the fifth, Cuellar led off with a single, then three straight wild pitches allowed her to score for a 5-0 lead. One more run was tacked on later in the inning with an RBI single from Morriss. 

In the sixth inning, Izzy Reyes doubled and later came home on an RBI single by Ysabella Cortez.

San Marcos scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the sixth on a bases-loaded walk, but it was too little, too late. Quintero earned her 18th win of the season with six strong innings, while Kamerynn Cordova closed the game out.

• Marissa Quintero picked up two wins Saturday — one in relief, one as a complete game — to finish the regular season at 18-3 with a 1.20 ERA and a .193 opponent batting average, both the best marks among qualifying pitchers in the CCAA.
• Annelise Garcia went 4-for-8 with four runs scored, three RBIs, a double and a home run across the doubleheader. She ranks top-10 in Pioneer history in several offensive categories: third in runs scored (134) and hits (206), second in triples (20), tied fourth in home runs (22), fourth in RBIs (55), and third in stolen bases (55).
• With the two wins, head coach Claire Sua-Amundson is now just one victory away from reaching 200 career wins.

With the regular season wrapped up, 2025 CCAA Softball Tournament presented by FloCollege is next for the Pioneers. No. 1 seed Cal State East Bay faces the lowest remaining seed (following Wednesday's single elimination round) in the tournament on Thursday, May 1 at 10:30 a.m. the CCAA Softball Tournament takes place at Seawolf Softball Field in Rohnert Park, California.
