DAY ONE RECAP: Pioneer Men's Golf Opens Spring Season at CSUSM Fujikura Invitational

VISTA, Calif.  – Cal State East Bay men's golf opened the 2024 spring season in the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational. The tournament is hosted by Cal State San Marcos at Shadowridge Golf Club.
 
In the day's opening round, Aaron Lee led the Pioneers with a 2-under-par 70, Ryan Hong shot an even par 72 and Easton Hether fired a 1-over-par 73 (+1) as the top three Pioneers with the lowest first round scores. 

In the second round, Lee shot an even par 72 for a day one score of 2-under par 142, as he finished the day with seven birdies in an eighth place tie on the leaderboard. Hether shot 2-under-par 70 in the second for a day one score of 143, as he had eight total birdies, with five of them coming on the last six holes played in the second round. Backstrom and Hong finished tied for 13th at even par 144. Hong's nine birdies is a team high through two rounds. 
 
Cal State East Bay is in second place in the team competition by five strokes, behind first place Cal State Monterey Bay. Chris Chomyn of Stanislaus State sits atop the leaderboard through two rounds at 9-under par 135, highlighted by an opening round score of 64. 
 
The Pioneers will play their final round at the CSUSM Fujikara Invitational tomorrow with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
