TOURNAMENT RECAP: Men's Golf at The Stack Cougar-Burro Collegiate

BUCKEYE/GOODYEAR, Ariz. - The Stack Cougar-Burro Collegiate took place over three days, with rounds one and two at Verrado Golf Club on Sunday and Monday, and Tuesday's final round at Golf Club of Estrella. Cal State East Bay men's golf placed sixth among 14 teams in the tournament.

  • The lowest score among the Pioneers was from Easton Hether, who finished seventh on the leaderboard at 4-under-par 212. His performance included a third round score of 69 with all shots at even par or lower. He had 10 birdies among the 54 holes played throughout the tournament. He shot even par on 38 holes.
  • Peyton Hendricks had a team-high 13 birdies for the Pioneers with six in the third round for a 70 in the round. Hendricks finished tied for 17th on the leaderboard.

Following the tournament, Cal State East Bay golf coach Chris Oetinger spoke about the team's performance. "The guys fought hard this week. Unfortunately, we had a hard time getting momentum going. Lots of lessons were learned: how to play in high heat, navigating different lies, playing on Bermuda greens and navigating changing between different courses mid tournament. Our sport is mostly played between the ears and developing confidence, belief and focus are key if we are going to achieve our goals. Each one of the guys knows what they need to work on individually to improve over the next week and a half so we can close out the regular season strong. Congrats to Easton for playing solid and finishing under par each tournament with a [second place tie] in the first tournament and seventh in the second tournament. His steady play is impressive and fun to watch."

After a break from competition, the Pioneers return to Arizona for their next tournament on April 7-8 for the RJGA Palm Valley Classic at Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Arizona.
