This Week in Pioneer Athletics (Oct. 23-29)
An exciting week of Pioneer sporting events take place this coming week. Women's Volleyball, Men's Soccer and Women's Soccer will make a push for the CCAA postseason, Cross Country teams will run in the CCAA Championships on Friday morning in Fresno, both golf teams wrap up the fall schedule in Hawaii and women's and men's basketball will play in exhibition games next Monday and Tuesday respectively.

The Pioneers will look for a successful meet in the CCAA Championships. The course should be familiar to the runners as several of them ran at Woodward Park on September 7 to open the 2024 season. The fastest performance this season in the 6k for the Pioneers was from Madison Gomez, who finished the distance in 22 minutes, 7.3 seconds at the Cougar Challenge in September.
East Bay finished sixth in the 2023 CCAA Women's Cross Country Championships.

Cole McKain has a very successful history in the CCAA Men's Cross Country Championships as he has finished in the top-15 in all three previous appearances, ultimately resulting in three times on the All-CCAA Team, as he will look to finish all four of his Pioneer cross country seasons with the honor. Last season, he finished seventh at the CCAA Championships.
In 2023, as a team, the Pioneers finished sixth among nine teams at the CCAA Cross Country Championships.

The Pioneers finished in fourth place in the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate as the team will look for a strong finish to the fall season in Waikoloa Village. Peyton Hendricks finished with East Bay's lowest score in the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate at -3, tied for 11th on the leaderboard.

The Pioneers enter the weekend in fifth place in the CCAA Standings looking to add to their point total and climb in the standings. The top six teams in the standings qualify for the CCAA Men's Soccer Tournament, presented by FloCollege.
Cal State East Bay head coach Mike Haswell will be returning to coach on the campus of Cal State LA for the first time since he was on the coaching staff there before joining the Pioneers.

Last Thursday, the Pioneers lost the first two sets to Cal State Monterey Bay, but would not go down easily as they took the next to to force a deciding set. However, CSUEB lost the match by dropping the fifth set to the Otters. But on Saturday, the Pioneers and Otters went the distance once again only for East Bay to win in extra points in set five. With Saturday's win, the Pioneers snapped a four-match losing skid and will look to make up ground in the standings this week with a pair of home matches this week.
