Pioneer Baseball Splits Saturday Doubleheader at CSUSB
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Cal State East Bay continued their CCAA series against Cal State San Bernardino with a road doubleheader at Fiscalini Field on Saturday. The Pioneers won game one 9-7 and the Coyotes won game two 14-9 in seven innings.

Game One – Cal State East Bay 9, Cal State San Bernardino 7
Danelle Daniels led off the game with a solo home run to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the second inning, Jaylen Hodges hit an RBI single to right center that drove in Quinn Ayres and Brenden Bell. Luke Brown delivered an RBI single in the same inning for a 4-0 lead.
The Pioneers tacked on two more runs in the top of the third inning on a Sam Gilliam two-run home run to left field for a 6-0 lead.
The Coyotes would score three runs in the bottom of the third inning, cutting CSUEB's lead to 6-3.
Hodges hit an RBI single up the middle in the top of the sixth and Luke Novitske singled to center field to drive in Hodges and Niko Mollat in the same inning to lead 9-3.
Although CSUSB threatened to come back by scoring four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, having the bases loaded with the winning run on base, the Pioneers prevailed with a 9-7 win.
- Gabe Tanner earned his eighth win of the season for the Pioneers, throwing 8.0 innings allowing one earned run and striking out three.
- Drake Richardson picked up the save.
- Hodges went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Pioneers offensively.
- Daniels' home run was his second in as many games going back to Friday.
The Coyotes jumped out to a 5-0 lead in bottom of the first inning.
In the top of the second inning, the Pioneers got on the scoreboard with a Gilliam solo home run to left field.
The Coyotes would then add nine unanswered runs over the course of the next three innings to go ahead 14-1.
Quinn Ayres hit a grand slam to right field in the top of the fifth inning and another grand slam for the Pioneers was hit the top of the sixth inning by Jacob Klinovsky. However, the Pioneers did not score any more runs on Saturday as CSUSB won game two in seven innings, 14-9.
- Gilliam hit a home run in each of Saturday's games, as he has four this season.
- All nine runs for the Pioneers in game two were from home runs.
