Pioneer Baseball Drops Pair of Games to CSULA on Saturday
LOS ANGELES – Cal State East Bay baseball continued its CCAA series against Cal State Los Angeles on Saturday at Reeder Field. The Golden Eagles won both games – 6-3 in game one and 5-0 in game two in seven innings.

Game One – Cal State LA 6, Cal State East Bay East Bay 3
The Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. After the Golden Eagles scored, the Pioneers' defense shined as they converted a rare triple play to end the inning.
The Pioneers would tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the third inning with one run on a Brenden Bell RBI double down the left field line that scored Niko Mollat.
CSULA broke the tie with two runs in the bottom of the third inning, then added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for a 6-1 lead.
Matthew O'Mahony hit into an error by the Golden Eagles that allowed Luke Brown and Luke Novitske to score for the Pioneers in the top of the eighth.
The Pioneers were unable to score any more runs as Cal State LA won the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, 6-3.
- Both Mollat and Novitske each went 1-for-3 scoring one run each to lead the Pioneers' offense.
- Entering the game as a relief pitcher, RJ Aranda had four strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched.
The Golden Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the first off a pair of solo home runs. Cal State LA added one run in the bottom of the third inning and two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 5-0 lead.
The Pioneers would get runners into scoring position in the top of the fifth and the top of the sixth inning but could not plate the runners as CSULA swept the doubleheader for a 5-0 win in seven innings.
- Mollat went 1-for-2 to lead the Pioneers' offense in game two.
