Pioneer Baseball Drops Series Finale to CSUDH on Sunday

CARSON, Calif. – Cal State East Bay baseball battled early but ultimately fell short in Sunday's series finale against (RV) Cal State Dominguez Hills, dropping the contest 9-5 at Toro Baseball Field. A decisive five-run seventh inning by the Toros proved to be the difference maker.

GAME SUMMARY

The Pioneers jumped ahead early, scoring two runs in the first inning. Dominick Najar started off with a walk, advancing after Danelle Daniels reached base on catcher's interference. Luke Brown's groundout moved the runners into scoring position, leading to Camron Grant's RBI groundout that brought Najar home. Gio Martini then singled to left field, plating Daniels for a 2-0 lead.

The Toros responded promptly, tying the game at two runs apiece by the end of the second inning.

Cal State East Bay reclaimed a 3-2 lead in the fifth with an RBI from Jacob Froess, only to see Dominguez Hills surge back in the sixth inning with a two-run homer by Quinn Johnson to take a 4-3 lead.

Cal State Dominguez Hills added five more runs in the seventh for a comfortable 9-3 lead.

Despite a late rally attempt in the eighth inning highlighted by Luke Brown's solo home run and Nick Thomson's RBI double, the Pioneers could not overcome the deficit as CSUDH went on to a 9-5 win taking three of four in the series against the Pioneers.
