Pioneer Baseball Drops Series Opener to CSUMB on Thursday
Box Score SEASIDE, Calif. – Cal State East Bay traveled to Seaside to for a four-game CCAA series against Cal State Monterey Bay, which is the Pioneers' final regular season series of 2024. The Otters won the first game of the series 13-6.
GAME SUMMARY |
The Otters took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but the Pioneers would score three runs in the top of the second for a 3-1 lead. Jaylen Hodges hit an RBI single through the left side and Danelle Daniels tripled to right center driving in Hodges and Niko Mollat.
CSUMB answered with eight runs over the course of the next two innings to lead 9-3.
Daniels hit an RBI double down the right field line in the top of the fourth to get one run back as CSUEB trailed 9-4.
The Otters would score two runs in the bottom of the fifth and one run in the bottom of the sixth – all off of two separate home runs.
The Pioneers scored their final runs of the game with two runs in the top of the seventh. The first of the two was on a throwing error by the Otters that allowed Daniels to come to the plate and one on a Matthew O'Mahony sacrifice fly RBI that drove in Luke Novitske.
CSUMB added one more run in the bottom of the seventh and cruised to a 13-6 win to open the series.

- Daniels went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and one run scored to lead the Pioneers at the plate. He hit a single, a double and a triple.
- With two hits on Friday was Jacob Klinovsky.
- With the Pioneers' loss, combined with two wins in CCAA action on Thursday by Sonoma State, Cal State East Bay is mathematically eliminated from contention to qualify for the 2024 CCAA Tournament.
