Pioneers Bounce Back in Second Game of Doubleheader to Split Saturday's Action
HAYWARD, Calif. — Cal State East Bay baseball split a CCAA doubleheader on Saturday at Pioneer Baseball Field, dropping the first game to Cal State LA 11-1 but bouncing back strongly to win game two 6-0 behind a complete-game shutout from Max Gonzales and a timely home run by Luke Brown.

Game One: Cal State LA 11, Cal State East Bay 1
Cal State LA opened the scoring in the first inning on a double play ball that allowed Isaiah Marquez to score. The Golden Eagles added two more runs in the third with a two-run home run from Marquez. The Pioneers struggled defensively, committing three errors in the game, and managed their only run in the seventh inning on a Dominick Najar RBI double.
The Golden Eagles blew the game open in the ninth inning, scoring six runs on five hits, highlighted by Cesar Chavez's two-run double and an RBI single by Gilbert Morales.
Game Two: CSUDH 4, Cal State East Bay 0 (7 innings)The second game of the day belonged entirely to the Pioneers, as Max Gonzales tossed a complete-game shutout, scattering five hits and striking out five to secure his second complete-game shutout of the season. Cal State East Bay broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning, capitalizing on an error with RBI fielder's choices by Amayas Lamar and Dominick Najar.
In the fifth, the Pioneers extended their lead to 4-0 on an RBI single by Quinn Ayres and a sacrifice fly from Jaylen Hodges.
Luke Brown capped the scoring in the sixth with a two-run home run to left field for a 6-0 lead.
