Gonzales Adds to Weekly Awards with NCBWA West Region Pitcher of the Week Honor

NAMPA, Idaho - For the second time in as many days, Cal State East Bay baseball pitcher Max Gonzales received a weekly award for his performance on the mound during the week of March 31-April 16. On top of his FloCollege/CCAA Pitcher of the Week award, he was named NCBWA Division II West Region Pitcher of the Week.

In the second game of the Pioneers' doubleheader on Saturday vs. Cal State LA, Gonzales threw a complete game seven-inning shutout toward a 6-0 win for East Bay. In the game, while facing 28 batters, he only allowed five hits, struck out five while no CSULA runners reached third base.

Gonzales has a 2.01 earned run average, which is lowest among qualifying pitchers in the CCAA. He has 46 strikeouts in 53.2 innings on the mound with a 5-2 record.

Gonzales is the second pitcher to earn NCBWA Division II Pitcher of the Week honors this season. For the week of March 10-16, Caleb Schaeffer received the same weekly award.

The Pioneers return to action this coming Friday when they take on Cal State San Marcos in the opener of a four-game series on the road at the CSUSM campus.
