SAN FRANCISCO – Cal State East Bay baseball split a CCAA doubleheader against (RV) San Francisco State on Saturday at Maloney Field, claiming a thrilling 8-6 win in the opener before falling 5-4 in extra innings in the second game.

Game One: Cal State East Bay 8, SF State 6
After trailing 3-0, East Bay cut the deficit in the third inning when Micah Cervantes and Dominick Najar reached base and Jacob Klinovsky drove in a run with a single. Camron Grant added a sacrifice fly to bring the Pioneers within one.
San Francisco State briefly reclaimed the momentum, but the fifth inning saw the Pioneers take control. Klinovsky tied the game with a solo home run to right field. After a fielding error allowed Grant to reach base, Danelle Daniels smashed a two-run home run to left, giving East Bay a 5-4 lead.
The Gators tied it again in the bottom of the fifth, then took a 6-5 lead the next inning, but Cal State East Bay responded. Jaylen Hodges delivered an RBI single in the seventh to tie the game at 6-6 after Luke Brown walked and moved into scoring position.
In the eighth, Grant doubled to drive in Najar, and a sacrifice fly by Carson Cripe in the top of the ninth plated an insurance run. Jackson Ellis closed the door by retiring the side in a scoreless ninth for the win as the Pioneers snapped a six game losing streak.
Game Two: SF State 5, Cal State East Bay 4 (8 innings)The second game was a tense battle throughout, with East Bay once again showing grit. San Francisco State jumped ahead for a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but the Pioneers quickly answered in the second when Luke Brown singled, stole second, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jaylen Hodges.
After a two-run homer put the Gators up in the third, Cal State East Bay chipped away. Gio Martini singled and scored on another Hodges RBI single in the fourth.
In the fifth, Amayas Lamar walked, stole second, then reached third on a throwing error. A triple from Micah Cervantes tripled to drive in Lamar to tie the game at 3-3. Later in the inning, Cervantes scored the go-ahead run on Camron Grant's sacrifice fly for a 4-3 lead.
Gabe Tanner was solid through seven innings, scattering eight hits and striking out seven.
However, San Francisco State tied the game in the sixth on a two-out RBI double from Daniel Murillo.
After a scoreless seventh leading to extra innings, the Pioneers went quietly in the eighth. In the bottom half, the Gators loaded the bases and walked off on a bases-loaded walk to clinch the split with a 5-4 victory.
