BERKELEY, Calif. — Cal State East Bay opened its 2026 track and field season Saturday at the Cal All Comers meet at Edwards Stadium, turning in several top-three finishes across both track and field events to begin the new campaign.

This coming week of action for the Pioneers includes a pair of road games for each basketball team, a two-day home series for baseball, hosting a tournament for women's golf, men's golf starting its spring schedule in Stockton and the first meet of 2026 for both Pioneer track & field teams.

The Cal State East Bay community is mourning the loss of Dr. Al Mathews, a true Pioneer whose influence as a coach, educator, and administrator helped shape the university's athletics program for nearly three decades.

There is a controlled confidence in the way Savannah Garcia steps onto the track. An unspoken understanding that she belongs in the chaos of the heptathlon. Seven events, two grueling days, endless adjustments. It's a sport for athletes who refuse to be boxed in, much like Garcia herself.
