FINAL RECAP: Men's Track & Field at CCAA Championships

TURLOCK, Calif. — Cal State East Bay men's track and field likely wrapped up its 2025 campaign with a sixth-place finish at the CCAA Track & Field Championships presented by Pollo Campero, held Thursday through Saturday at Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium on the campus of Stanislaus State. The Pioneers turned in several standout performances, including one individual conference title and personal bests on the field and track. In total, the Pioneers' medal count included a gold and a bronze medal. 

Below are notable Pioneer performances from the weekend:

Track Performances

  • Eion Daley placed sixth in the 800 meters with a personal best time of 1:52.75.
  • John Funderburg advanced to the finals of the 1,500 meters, where he clocked a personal best of 4:05.05.
  • Cole McKain, ran his third 5,000 meters at the CCAA Championships during his career and placed ninth with his best CCAA Championship meet time of 14:57.27. 

Field Performances

  • Benjamin Chang captured the gold medal in the long jump on Thursday, leaping a personal best of 7.24 meters. Chang was the first to win gold in any men's track & field event at the CCAA Championships for the Pioneers since 2015.
  • Michael Greco secured the bronze medal in the triple jump on Friday with a personal best of 14.36 meters.
  • Dapri Smith finished fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.92 meters.

Chico State won the overall team title, claiming the 2025 CCAA Championship for the first time since 2019.

In all likelihood, the 2025 season has concluded for Cal State East Bay, the third under Pioneer Hall of Famer and head coach Norm Alston.
