Adan Corona has become a name synonymous with resilience, leadership and excellence in Cal State East Bay men's soccer. Now in his junior season, the standout goalkeeper continues to build on a legacy that began with a historic freshman campaign and has only grown stronger since

The playoff berth itself was clinched on the final day of the regular season, a dramatic finish that set the tone for what was to come.

"Knowing we clinched playoffs was the start of a new chapter," he added. "The whole team was dialed in and had one objective in mind, to win. This all meant we had to put it more drive to achieve what we all came for."

Corona's journey began with an impressive freshman season in 2023, where he played over 1,400 minutes in goal and earned Cal State East Bay's Male Freshman of the Year award. His sophomore year saw continued growth, including multiple shutouts and a CCAA Defensive Player of the Week honor. "Receiving [that] award was a stepping stone in my collegiate career," Corona said. "I couldn't have done it without the coaching staff and teammates. Their drive and passion to get better every day is something else. Having that winning mentality throughout the squad is simply was drives our development. That mentality is what carries us through our everyday lives, it becomes a trait to oneself."

A Kinesiology major, Corona is focused on both athletic and academic development. He envisions a future where he continues to compete at the highest level while also helping others reach their potential.

"Ideally, I see myself living an active and balanced life where I'm constantly learning and pushing myself physically and mentally," he said. "Professionally, I want to continue my soccer career as far as possible. I, as well, want to work directly with athletes and clients to improve their performance, prevent injuries, and promote lifelong fitness."

Corona's path hasn't been without obstacles. He's had to develop a unique style of play and a mindset that sets him apart.

"In my athletic career, I have faced many challenges. One of them being my physical build. I have always been the 'shorter' goalkeeper but one cannot focus on that. I had to develop a style of play that made me standout and unique than the rest. I had to put in more work and lock in those fine details with the position. Having a different mentality and perspective than anyone else was key to face my challenges. Enjoying the process of getting better, the early mornings and long nights. The passionate drives to training, the 'need' and 'want' to develop. Falling in love with the process and not waste a day of work because tomorrow isn't promised."

At the core of his journey is family. Corona credits his parents for their unwavering support and sacrifices that have helped him reach this point.

"Couldn't have got to where I am currently without my mom and dad," he said. "Their sacrifice to give my sister and I the best opportunities possible is truly one to hear about. All love."

As the 2025 season unfolds, Adan Corona remains a driving force for the Pioneers - focused, fearless, and ready to lead his team to even greater heights.
