Pioneers Bounce Back Strong on Saturday with 3-2 Win at Dominican

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — Cal State East Bay men's soccer earned its first win of the season Saturday afternoon at Kennelly Field, edging Dominican 3-2 in a back-and-forth non-conference matchup. The Pioneers capitalized on an early own goal, a penalty kick conversion, and a second-half strike from Yuto Hatayama that proved decisive.

GOAL SUMMARY
  • East Bay struck first in the 11th minute, when an own goal to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.
  • The Penguins pulled level in the 28th minute, as Sergio Laguna finished a buildup that began with Brandon Selway and Dimani Mathlin to make it 1-1.
  • The Pioneers went back in front in the second half. After a Dominican yellow card, Jonas Banouas buried the ensuing penalty kick in the 51st minute for a 2-1 advantage.

The Penguins surged in the final 11-plus minutes, firing six shots, including four on target, but goalkeeper Adan Corona stood tall with a series of late saves to secure the result.
